Nissan Leaf sales highest in U.S since last year

It looks like popularity of the new Leaf isn't exclusive to Europe. Sales in the U.S hit 1,500 last month, which is the highest they have been since June 2017. In Europe it looks like Nissan is actually having difficulty keeping up with the demand in several different countries. Looks like the new Leaf will yet against take a spot among electric sellers.

Just goes to show you that range isn't everything when it comes to electric vehicles. You'd think everyone would flock to the Bolt or Tesla, but lower range models like the Leaf and Ioniq seems to be selling very well with demand outstripping supply.

I think its the proven platform and incredible standard tech on the Leaf that is helping it to see such successful numbers. Tesla is going to have a tough time staying competitive in this segment, considering all the problems they are having with production and the recent widespread recalls.

I don't think Nissan would be seeing these kinds of numbers if they hadn't done such a fantastic job on the redesign. I couldn't believe how many original Leafs were sold, considering how they looked. Back then there weren't many alternatives in the segment though.

Nissan has shown quirky styling can actually help with the sales of a vehicle, as evident with the Juke. More and more crossovers coming to the segment have similar, off brand styling, as its difficult to stand out in such a crowded space. The Leaf comes in at a pretty low entry price for an EV, once you factor in incentives.

Seems like Nissan is lagging a behind in Europe when it comes to sales, with the Renault Zoe coming in first for February and the BMW i3 in second. The third best seller was the new Leaf, though this could be due to the lack of availability in some areas.

I think the European market wants something with a luxurious edge and for that reason it might be wise for Infiniti to do something to the Q30 or QX30, unless they can justify coming out with an entirely new compact EV.
