Nissan IMx Concept is a Leaf Crossover

So Nissan seems intent to launch an EV crossover, which looks a lot like a Leaf SUV in concept. The IMx is powered by two electric motors that give it four wheel drive and a power output of 423bhp. It looks like Nissan has finally increased the battery pack and the range is believed to be around 373 miles. Don't think we'll see this crossover for a few years, but hopefully the engineering on its powertrain will allow for improvements on the current Leaf.

Although its only a concept, its promising to see an EV out of Nissan that makes it over the 200 mile bump. I really like the styling of this concept, but if you look at the original concepts behind the Leaf, you'll realize a production model will be quite different.

373 miles for a crossover would make it a market leader depending on when Nissan actually releases it. Right now Nissan is a bit behind when it comes to release dates and range. If they can push out the IMx Concept fast enough then they may have a chance. I'm very interested in one.

Its proposed 373 mile range, really shows how far behind expectations the new Leaf is. You shouldn't be getting more than double the efficiency in a vehicle that is noticeably larger. Love the looks of the IMx concept and it's good to see that Nissan has plans to get back to the front of the pack.

I heard that Nissan might be looking to refresh the Rogue which means if it goes on a new platform this EV crossover might follow. Car makers are always looking to consolidate cars onto just a limited amount of platforms. So this could be the case.

Does this mean that we are likely to see a hybrid variant of the Rogue at the very least? I believe they offer hybrid versions of both the Pathfinder and Highlander.

Nissan hasn't been as vocal about their electrification plans as some of the other manufacturers. Not sure if they plan on bringing out as many new models as BMW, Mercedes and VW have planned.

Odds are they will take a slower approach and progress slower like Toyota and Mazda. Luxury car makers have an easier time moving them and slowly its moving to more affordable models meaning we need to give it time.

Their have some pretty high milestones that they would like to meet, they just don't see to be hitting the EV segment with a strength in numbers approach, that we're seeing from competitors. A million ev's sold by 2022, could be a challenge considering their limited electric lineup atm.
