Its not but its an idea of a design that works and has made it to the market. What the Nissan concept did won't work in the real world.

Well the Leaf wasn't originally designed to be a convertible, and I'm sure this one off model would see some negative impacts on range due to the change in aerodynamics. This option would also raise the price, which is a big selling point for the new Leaf.

I mean I don't think a targa top roof would make any significant impact on fuel economy, and that is sorta the style we're seeing on this concept. I think a semi convertible roof might actually be the best route for EV's to go as that wont involve a heavy mechanized system or reduce practicality.

I think the VW T-Roc is a good example of how they could implement a convertible into current electric models. As you've suggested its more pop out panels, than a full motorized system.

Jeep has been doing it successfully to the Renegade and now to the new Wrangler. Best to leave motorized systems to Audi which works as an upsell. If you shop luxury, you expect luxury.

I believe one of the first fully electric models that will be hitting the market as a convertible is the Polestar, though that comes with a pretty hefty price tag. I think there is a chance we could see it on the Tesla Roadster as well.

I mean we're always going to see these kind of options offered on premium models, before they find they way into lower end vehicles. I do think the decision to shift towards panoramic roofs in new models is smart, as it does provide a similar experience.
