Nissan and Renault in talks to merge

Nissan and Renault have had a long standing partnership for close to 20 years, but there are now whispers of them merging. This move would be to better compete against the likes of Toyota and Volkswagen. It would make sense for this kind of deal to happen now, so that the company could cool resources to develop ev's and autonomous vehicles. I'd love for this merger to mean Renault's expansion into other markets.

They may as well take the final step I suppose, Renault already owns 43% of Nissan right now and the latter owns 15% of the French automaker. As far as I know, no final decision have been made yet and it has been going on for months.

A merge would allow them to pool resources and give them a better chance at competing with giants like Toyota.

They already each own a decent percentage of each other, so its not surprising to see them discussing becoming a singular company. I think its a little optimistic to hope that means we'll see Renaults offered anywhere other than Europe though. As much as I would like to see more euro models in the U.S, I don't think financially it will make much sense for them to import them here.

Even if this partnership means more euro inspired electrics, I'm all for it. I was really impressed with SEAT's Cupra electric touring car and would love to see more performance styled hatchbacks here. Unfortunately the current electric offerings from Renault are a little lackluster, except for the Twizy which just looks cool imo.

The Twizy looks like a toursity rental and not really a daily driver. Acutally saw something similar in Japan as a small rental car and had a good laugh when I saw it.
