Nissan Frontier Sentinel concept

Nissan debuted a new concept version of the Frontier at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. It has been outfitted with two second life Leaf battery packs, which provide 30kWh of power, which is enough to power the average home for a day. The cargo bed also serves as a launch pad for a drone and has been outfitted with drawers for tools and supplies. Unfortunately the truck itself its powered by a 2.3l turbo diesel.

Love how this concept looks but I wish it had more pre-runner styling going on to better suit what the Frontier is about. On that note some adventure styling from this concept can do the Leaf justice.
After all, right now the EV market is demanding more than just a-to-b EV's.

It looks like something you'd see from Hot Wheels, but I'll admit that it works. I'm just glad to see that yet again Nissan has found a way to repurpose old battery packs. Using them as a supplementary power supply on new vehicles could be a great way to reduce costs.

I 100% agree and love that Nissan is leading the way with finding new uses for old packs. Not only will this reduce the amount of waste we see with scrapped models, but can also be a cost effective way of building up the EV infrastructure.

Doing something special with the new Titan would have been a great start for seeing what actual results would be since Titan R&D money is well spent by now.

Spending more to upfit won't do them much harm if the model flops.

It's going to be years before we see any full sized pickups with electric powertrains from the big guys. I know there are some smaller independent companies such as Rivian who have already debuted some impressive models however.

2020's are right around the corner, a big decade for hybrid and all-electric vehicles so at one of the upcoming shows we should get greater insight.
