Red face 2018 Newbie

Hi all, I'm a first time Leaf owner since last July. Love the vehicle so far. I live on Long Island which has a moderate climate most of the year. I/m still learning all the feature of this vehicle. One issue I am dealing with thus far is the information display and the section where the vehicle is displayed with the compass directions. Today I lost the compass. Only the vehicle symbol shows. I may have turned something off in settings, but not sure about that. Anyone have this issue?

Thanks,
Vince

Welcome to the forum Vince and congrats on your first Leaf. What you are describing might just be a software fault, and you might be able to restore the compass with a system reboot.

Congrats on the Leaf and welcome to the community. Haven't seen this issue reported before, but I'd mention it to your dealer if you can't find a workaround yourself.

Well, regarding my previous post about loosing my compass display, apparently it returned at some point after starting the vehicle a few days later. Thanks for the replies.

Welcome Vince. Glad to hear that your car has managed to sort itself out. Is this your first EV or have you owned a previous generation model?

Yes, my first. I have been going over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb to learn as much as possible. One controversy is charging to 100% vs 80% to limit battery degrigation. In order to stop charging at 80% I have to set the charge timer each night based on the days use. It seems Nissan left out this charge setting in the current model.

I have a feeling that by not being entirely precise with numbers like this gives them an advantage, often the more details you add, the more unproductive its for you as a car maker.

We'll have to wait on long term tests to determine if 100% charges do make the battery deteriorate more rapidly. I know that between 80-100% that the voltage is usually throttled down to prevent this.

Doing some of my own research using my charge routines I have noticed SOH declines faster with full charges vs 80% charge as reported by Leaf Spy Pro. This is using my home level 2 charging station.

Can someone offer an opinion regarding cold weather operation and reduced range? I know range is reduced in cold weather. If the temperature, for example is 20° F and the display says there is 50 Miles remaining, can I count on the display being an accurate reading of Miles remaining? Does the display remain accurate in cold weather operation or does it display inaccurately in cold weather.
