Use the correct type of cable for Android Auto
One of the first things I did when I took delivery of my 2019 Leaf I was plug my phone in to try Android Auto. I was immediately frustrated when it didn't work! It would connect okay but any audio I tried to play was extremely choppy. After some searching I found out that I needed to get a 3.1 Gen 2 cable in order for it to work correctly. I've used my phone and the OEM cable in at least five other cars without a problem, so I'm not sure why the Leaf requires a special cable. But it does, so I'm spreading the word.
I ended up buying this one from Amazon and Android Auto is working perfectly (as perfectly as AA can get, anyway):
It's covered in braided nylon, so it's a little stiff, but I actually kind of like it that way. And the 1 foot length I chose works well with the little phone cubby in the Leaf.
Whatever cable you end up with, just make sure it's 3.1 Gen 2.
