Seeing as how the last generation of the Leaf did very well in the U.S with regards to sales, I think its unlikely we'll see a backlash with its redesign. It seems to improve upon the styling/performance in most aspects and comes in a very reasonable price point, considering some of the technology that comes as a standard feature.
The difference is competition. Right now is the best time for any car maker to get into the compact EV segment. Years ago it was just Chevy and Nissan, now its easy to forget about Nissan.
They just better hurry up and launch an electric CUV, it could be a better angle to play than the Leaf.
