Nissan Leaf Charge Port

I'm still not seeing the new Leafs at my local dealership yet, but did manage to find a picture of the charging area for anyone curious what's under that hood flap.

It looks like there are two ports? Are they used for different kinds of charge stations or methods? Certainly take some getting used to, filling your car up from the front. I'm assuming that under the hood is additional storage as well.

They are different charging inlets which should be a Type 1 (slow) and Type 2 (Rapid)

From what I know, the orange lid indicates fast charging, meaning the black cover is for the normal charging inlet.

Thanks for sharing, I had no idea the charging style required a different port, but that makes sense with the difference in voltage. I'm assuming only certain charge stations offer quick charging? From the interactive maps I've seen they seem to vary from level 1 to level 3.

The availability of quick charging depends upon location entirely. I'm more curious if there are different home kits, that provide different changing styles. I'm assuming that Nissan offers a home charging dock, any idea what it costs to install? Or do they merely plug into a regular outlet?

It looks like the charging docks are simple to install, not involving retrofitting of any kind. They vary in price starting at $389, ranging up towards $636. Their price is largely impacted by voltage, cable length and wether or not they are able to be used outdoors.

I wouldn't be too concerned about if we can quick charge from home because with the range we have, any bit of charging we do intermittently is more to top up than out of a real need where we could be inconvenienced. It takes 8 hours to fully charge with the 240 volt home charging system

They might want to keep quick charging stations out of the home, in an effort to draw customers to the public stations. I'm sure there will be many who will be enticed by lower charge times and cheaper hydro bills. Anyone have an idea on a monthly basis what one of these home dock stations costs to use?
