Rapidgate solved with software update

There are reports going around that the throttled charging some owners were seeing has been resolved via the latest software patch. It looks like Nissan has made some changes to charging speeds when the battery is hot, at least on newer models. https://insideevs.com/video-nissan-l...roblem-solved/

This is fantastic news if its true. Just hope that upping the charging rate during warmer battery temps doesn't result in any battery degradation.

Nissan is one of the only automakers that has a battery refurbishment program in place, but I'm sure they have done their due diligence in testing the limitations of the battery pack. Just put a liquid cooling system in the Leaf already.

I think they main reason why Nissan is trying to avoid a liquid cooling system is because that's going to raise the starting MSRP. The whole reason for its early success is because of the value proposition.

I'll be looking out for how this holds up in new vehicles before restoring faith in Leaf's.

It's a cost they should just absorb. Every other EV has a proper cooling system in place and many of them probably aren't even profitable.

Chevy's system is quite innovative, no wonder everyone loves the new Bolt

The Bolt has been the highest rated EV in the segment over the past few years for good reason. Chevy is also at work developing an app that shows real time charging status for owners.

Once Toyota enters the EV game we should expect some impressive infrastructure. What they did for the LFA was already crazy to me.

Here is a "official" sounding quote saying that Nissan will issue the software update on Leafs built within specific dates:

https://www.electrive.com/2019/01/22...ter-rapidgate/

"A Nissan spokesman told electrive that they would offer the for all Leaf models produced between 8 December 2017 and 9 May 2018. Electric vehicles with a later production date already have the current software version."

Please post if you are able to get any further information from a dealer or if Nissan contacts you.

On a related note, how do I find out what year and month my 2018 Leaf SV was built? I tried the VIN decoding tools but I cannot find sufficient or clear info on how to figure that out...
