It's more of a concern because charging takes more time than simply filling up a tank and you may not always find a functioning charger when needed. That extra range helps you go from port to port and maybe more if need be. Most people won't go past 150 miles on a daily basis, but people do buy things for "what if". What if I need more range for that odd trip I take or what if I can't get to a charge in 150 miles.

I think most people who are in the market for an EV are well aware that they are going to have to be a lot more conscious of the mileage they are doing on a daily basis. There is certainly more planning that needs to be done when driving an electric, at least until the infrastructure reaches similar levels in availability to typical gas stations.
